Workshop on Improving Students’ Learning Outcomes with Service Learning and Critical Thinking through IT

ServiceLearning

INTRODUCTION
Critical Thinking, as an intellectual ability of students to think clearly and rationally in order to analyze and evaluate information gathered, becomes one significant stage of students’ learning process. This ability, in fact, still needs improvement to produce quality students who are critical within their thought to construct the understanding of a particular issue. In addition, this critical ability will be balanced with a meaningful learning process of civic responsibilities to raise the students’ social awareness and leadership, called Service Learning.

These two topics “Critical Thinking” and “Service Learning” are quite unfamiliar among teachers in Indonesia,  especially English teachers in Surakarta. Thus, this workshop aims at widening the knowledge of English teachers so that they improve the learning outcomes. Using IT in teaching those skills, teachers could facilitate students who are now living in the millennial era.
